Social Media: Talked About to Death Yet Still a Mystery?

Welcome one and all, to the next best thing in blogging innovation!

What is is: Here at The (Not So) Simple Life - we're going to focus on one general topic each month - whether it be business, technology, philosophy, religion, or human rights, every month we'll focus on something relevant and (hopefully) interesting for you. We're a COMMUNITY blog - I am merely a facilitator of conversation, host, and contributor. Not the expert, and all opinions are entitled to the said author. Think of it as 'quick hits' - you might not see full-fledged blog posts that you're used to - but what you will get is, more or less, a blogging forum. People sharing their thoughts and innovative thinking. Maybe you'll be inspired to join in the conversation yourself as a Not So Simple Life blogger (it's as easy as emailing me and asking for an invite - we're open to anyone and everyone). The more the merrier!

Life Without Twitter? Work without Facebook? INCONCIEVABLE!

Now that the disclaimer is out of the way - what better way to start off a 'community' blog than to introduce the topic of social media and social networking? It really has become a huge part of our lives, hasn't it? I can still remember the days before Twitter, Myspace, and Facebook. Even before AOL Instant Messenger and hell, even email. But can you imagine a life today without the convenience of being able to speak to anyone, anywhere, instantly, about anything? Where would we be today without it? Can we even sustain human life without it in this day and age? If all social media was to disappear, would the economy fail? Would we see total anarchy? Would we all be wandering around like a bunch of Twitter-less zombies?

(I smell a movie plot in the works)

What is social media to you? How have you integrated it into your everyday life? Can you see yourself being OK without Facebook and Twitter? Is there any end in sight? What will the future bring? How do you see companies continuing to jump on board the social networking bandwagon? What's the ROI from a business perspective? Is the return on investment intangible, monetary, or both?

(Some) thoughts to spark your discussion and engagement.

Cheers to everyone and welcome to the Not So Simple Life!

(Life may not be so simple, but it's a hell of a lot easier when we walk down the path together)
